After nearly destroying my left hand with a pair of scissors, I opened the box to be greeted with the fantastic sight of a Cisco 2500 series router!
Ok, that was horrifically geeky. However, this is a seriously nice bit of kit, despite it being slightly deprecated. This is the workhorse of government, corporate and military I.T systems, this screams of fun (inter)networking and it's now mine.
It'll be a great help while I study for the CCNA, I can play around with configs and after the CCNA? Well it'd be great for testing security ideas or making a private LAN! Hell, I can now say I have an internet in my house (2 networks joined together by a router is an internetwork - internet).
Anyway, that's Box #1. A second box is on it's way full of useful tools, cables and some extra things to have fun with!
Thanks a bunch R. You know who you are ;)
And now, some pictures!

So this is the router. It's 18" wide and weighs a ton but oh well.

Here you can see the console, aux and BRI ports as well as the all important on/off switch!

Some more serial interfaces (green LEDs included!)

And a pretty label as well as the fan. Not really important but looked cool and techy ;)
So anyway, I'll be configuring this and playing with it a lot over the months to come. Expect some interesting blog posts!
Until next time...
