Why? I got a bit sick of KDE to be honest. It has great apps but I find the interface to be extremely clunky despite some rather complicated attempts to customize it.
I've gone 31.5 hours without sleep now (work and party) and I have a suspicion that the delirium has played a large part in my choice.
However, there are some things I really quite like about GNOME, allow me to enumerate:
- A more elegant approach to the menu. It's small and unobtrusive. It's not as fantastically minimalistic as Fluxbox but as far as GUIs go, this one is pretty nice.
- Easier to customize. As someone who does a lot of things on computers, I like to have my menus organized into specific tasks and GNOME allows me to do this with ease.
- More ergonomic - Going back to the last point, the menu is far easier to use. Though not a major thing, it is a comforting concept.
- Compiz-fusion - need I say more?
- Some very nice apps for GNOME
- And more
Until then...
